Adoption is not in doubt. 26% of single Americans now use AI somewhere in their dating life, a 333% jump in one year, and among Gen Z that figure is 47%. The tools get used. The open question is what they are being pointed at.
The two ends of that chart come from the same survey of 14,003 adults across 14 countries. More than half of online daters would happily use AI to write their pickup lines. Almost two thirds would be annoyed to discover the person they were talking to had done it. Everybody wants the assist and nobody wants to be the one it was used on.

What the Research Says About AI in Dating
What people say they want from AI in dating is narrower than what the apps are selling.
Filtering and profile help lead. Speaking on their behalf does not. The same Singles in America study puts the number who want AI to filter their matches at 44% and those who want help writing their own profile at 40%.

When you show up on that date, it's very important that who your match meets is the person who they've been talking to online.
That is the bill that comes due. Everything you outsource in the DMs has to be paid back in person, in a bar, with no keyboard extension.
The industry has thought about this in the other direction too. In May 2024 at Bloomberg Tech in San Francisco, Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd described a future where the messaging is not the part you do at all:

Compliments with no detail in them. Answers that respond to the topic rather than to what she said. And the big one, a conversation with no memory, where nothing from four messages ago ever comes back.
The em dash thing is real and it is being discussed in the open. Threads in dating forums now treat stray dashes as evidence, to the point where people get accused of using AI for writing punctuation correctly. Fair or not, that is the environment you are texting in.
The deeper risk is not being caught in the DMs at all. It is arriving at the date as a different person than the one she has been enjoying for a week. Anything that widens the gap between your messages and you is a debt, and she will read the shift long before you notice it.
