Plug AI Review: What It Does, What It Costs, What It Can't Know

The short version
- Plug AI is an iPhone texting assistant from Vert Media Partners. You upload a screenshot of a chat and it suggests replies. It also writes openers and answers dating questions in a chat.
- There is no free Plug AI in any useful sense. The app is free to download, but its own listing says it requires a subscription to use.
- It is genuinely good at one job: getting you unstuck when you have been staring at a reply for twenty minutes. 15,763 US ratings at 4.6 stars says plenty of people value that.
- Its ceiling is the screenshot. Plug AI sees the last few messages. It does not know who she is, what she cares about, or anything she has not typed into that frame.
- At least four different App Store apps are called Plug AI. Check the developer name before you pay for one.

What Plug AI is (and which Plug AI you are looking at)
Plug AI is a texting and flirting assistant for iPhone. The version most people mean is Plug AI: Texting Assistant, sold by Vert Media Partners LLC, filed under Lifestyle and rated 16+. Its listing describes three features: upload a screenshot to get customized replies, generate opening lines, and chat with the bot for dating and self-improvement advice. It says it works best for Tinder, Hinge, Wizz and iMessage.
That is the whole product, and the listing is refreshingly plain about it.
The confusing part is the name. Search the App Store for it and you will find several apps with "Plug AI" in the title from different developers. On 09 Oct 2026 we counted four in the US store, and only one of them has a real following.

The other three are Plug AI: Pick Up Lines & Rizz with 608 ratings, Plug AI: Rizz Dating Assistant with 197, and Plug AI: Rizz Dating Advice with 98. They do similar things and are priced differently. Everything below is about the Vert Media app unless it says otherwise. If the developer name on the page you are looking at is different, the prices and the privacy details here do not apply to it.
How Plug AI works: screenshot in, replies out
The loop is simple. You are in a conversation on Hinge or in iMessage. You do not know what to say next. You screenshot the chat, open Plug AI, upload the image, and it gives you suggested replies to paste back.
A third-party walkthrough of the app's onboarding shows two controls worth knowing about. A chili pepper "spice" slider sets how bold the suggestions are, and a "gimme more" button rolls a fresh batch if none of the first ones fit. The opener tool works the same way, except there is no chat yet, so it works from whatever you tell it.
Then there is the advice chat, which is a general dating chatbot. Ask it whether a double text is too much and it will answer. If you want a coach that keeps notes on each match between sessions, that is a different kind of app, covered in our Wingman AI review.
The thing to notice is the input. In every one of these modes the app knows exactly what you hand it: the pixels in the screenshot, or the sentence you typed. That is a design choice, not a flaw, and it makes the app fast. It also sets the limit on everything it can write, which we will come back to.

Plug AI pricing: is there a free version?
Short answer: you can download it for free, but you cannot really use it for free. The App Store description says it in plain words.
The in-app purchases on the US listing run from $4.99 to $59.99: several items called Premium at $6.99, a 25-reply Premium pack at $5.99, a weekly unlimited plan at $4.99, and an annual unlimited plan at $59.99. The listing does not say which of those is the default offer, and prices change by country and over time, so trust the paywall in front of you over any number in an article, this one included.
The same onboarding walkthrough describes a hard paywall inside the first 30 seconds, with a 3-day free trial that converts to a weekly subscription. If you only want to try it, that trial is your "Plug AI free". Set a reminder to cancel on day two if it is not for you, because weekly billing adds up faster than it looks.
If you see "free Plug AI" offered on a website that is not the App Store, it is either one of the other apps with the same name or something you should not be typing a chat into.
What Plug AI does well
Being fair to it matters, because the strengths are real and they explain the rating.
It breaks the freeze. The usual reason you stall in a chat is not a lack of ideas. You sit there deleting every reply because each one sounds either boring or try-hard. A tool that hands you four options in seconds ends that loop, and a reply that goes out beats a better one that never does. Silence on your side looks exactly like being left on read from hers.
It works anywhere you can screenshot. Because the input is an image, it does not care whether the chat is in Hinge, Tinder, Instagram or your texts. No integrations, no logins.
The tone control is useful. Being able to dial a suggestion from safe to bold is a better interface than asking a general chatbot to "make it flirtier" four times.
People like it. 15,763 US ratings averaging 4.6 is not nothing for a dating utility. The written reviews on the listing range from someone crediting it with landing a date to someone saying it tells you to say cringe things half the time, which is about what you would expect from a tool whose output depends on a slider.
One honest footnote: the listing's version history shows the latest update, 6.3, on 02 Aug 2024. That does not mean it is broken. It does mean you should not expect new features.
What Plug AI can't know
This is the part the listing cannot fix with a better prompt.
A reply generator only sees the frame. Picture a chat where she has said "lol yeah it was a long week" and you have no idea what to send. Plug AI reads those words, maybe her name and a profile photo if they made it into the screenshot, and writes something that fits a long week. It cannot know that she spent that week training for a half marathon, that she works night shifts, or that the reason the chat feels flat is that you have been asking her generic questions for three days.
None of that is in the screenshot, so none of it is in the reply.
Brian Christian, author of The Most Human Human, a book about what machines get right in conversation and what they miss, put the mechanism in one line, quoted in Scientific American:
The statistical, cultural, ritual regularities of human interaction are the weaknesses that these machines exploit.
Regularities are what a screenshot tool is good at: the common shape of a witty reply to "long week". What it has no way to reach is the irregular stuff, the specific facts about one person that make a message impossible to send to anyone else. That is also what makes a conversation last past the fourth message, which is where most of them die. We went through why in how to never run out of things to say.
The second limit follows from the first. More than 15,000 people have rated this app, which means a lot of men are feeding it similar screenshots of similar chats. A line that the tool rates as strong is one a lot of other men are being offered this week too. Specific beats clever, and the tool can only be clever.
Plug AI vs actually knowing her
Both routes end with you sending a message. They differ in what that message is made of.
| Plug AI on its own | Plug AI plus something real about her |
|---|---|
| Sees the last few messages in the screenshot | You bring what she actually cares about |
| Reply fits the mood of the chat | Reply fits her |
| Witty in general | Specific to one person |
| Good for getting unstuck once | Gives you things to talk about for the next ten messages |
| Same input, similar output for everyone | Nobody else has your input |
The right column still uses AI if you want it to. It just starts with better information. The missing piece is knowing who she is before you type, and that is the job we built Piercr for. You put in her Instagram username and get a plain-language read on what she is actually into and what she cares about. It does not write your message. It gives you something true to write it from, which is the part no screenshot contains.
Most of that is sitting on her profile already, and we broke down what her Instagram says about her if you would rather read it yourself. The short version: the bio says far less than people assume, and her captions, tagged photos and who she pays attention to say a lot more.
What it looks like in a real chat
Same chat, two inputs. The left side is the kind of line any screenshot-only tool can reach, because everything it needs is in the frame. The right side needs one fact from outside it. These are illustrations of the principle, not lines to copy.
Screenshot only vs knowing her
both fit the screenshot, only one shows you know her
gives her something specific and easy to answer
a general compliment versus an observation only you could make
Look at what the right column has in common. None of them is clever, and every one carries a fact. If you want the opener version of this worked through, our breakdown of Instagram DM openers sorts hundreds of real first messages by what made them land.

What the research says about AI-written replies
The demand for tools like Plug AI is not in doubt. 26% of US singles now use AI to improve their dating lives, a 333% increase from 2024, according to Match and the Kinsey Institute's Singles in America study. In the 2024 edition of the same study, among singles who had used AI for online dating, 37% used it to help write a first message.
The problem is on the receiving end.

In a Norton survey of 14,003 adults across 14 countries, 57% of current online daters said they would use AI to write pick-up lines, and 64% said it would bother them to find out a match had used AI on their pictures or prompts. Everyone wants the help. Nobody wants to be the person it was used on.
That is the context any generated reply lands in: suspicion first. The writing itself is not what gives it away: in one 2025 study, people mistook GPT-4.5 for a human 73 percent of the time. What gives it away is a message that is smooth and contains nothing that could only have been written to her.
Logan Ury, Director of Relationship Science at Hinge, told Vanderbilt that AI should be your wingman rather than your ghostwriter, and that she does not advise copying and pasting messages a chatbot wrote. Her reason:
when you show up on that date, it's very important that who your match meets is the person who they've been talking to online.
If Plug AI wrote the conversation, she has been talking to Plug AI. Then you show up.
The industry knows where this road ends. Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd described it on stage at the Bloomberg Technology Summit, as reported by Fortune:
There is a world where your [AI] dating concierge could go and date for you with other dating concierge. Truly. And then you don't have to talk to 600 people.
A reply generator is a small step down that road: your assistant talks to her, and you carry the phone.
There is also a quieter trend underneath. 52% of current online daters have asked an AI chatbot for advice, and 61% say they would trust an AI coach more than a friend or family member for relationship advice. Your friends have met you, and some of them have met her. Plug AI has met a screenshot.
Before you upload a screenshot
Her messages are in that image too
A chat screenshot contains her words, often her name and photo, and she has not agreed to any of it. The developer's own App Store privacy label says user content, including photos and text messages, may be collected for analytics, app functionality and other purposes, though not linked to your identity. When we checked on 09 Oct 2026, the terms and privacy links on the listing returned a 404. Crop out what you do not need before you upload.
A few more, quickly. Cancel the trial before it converts if you are not sure. Never paste a reply you would not say out loud in front of her. And keep your own style: if you text in lower case with no full stops, a polished sentence with a semicolon in it is the tell people actually notice.

The verdict
Plug AI is a decent tool for a narrow job. If your problem is that you freeze mid-chat and need a nudge, it does that quickly, it does it across every app, and plenty of its users are happy. If your problem is that your conversations go flat, or that she replies but never seems interested, a better-phrased version of the same generic message will not fix it. That problem lives outside the screenshot.
If you use Plug AI
- Check the developer is Vert Media Partners LLC before you pay, since several apps share the name.
- Treat the 3-day trial as the free version and set a cancel reminder.
- Crop her name and photo out of screenshots you upload.
- Use the suggestions as a starting point, then add one thing that is true about her.
- Never send the first output unedited. Read it out loud in your own voice.
- If the chat keeps dying around message four, the fix is knowing more about her, not a better line.
A reply generator answers "what do I say next". The more useful question is "who am I talking to", and once you can answer that, you rarely need help with the first one. If you want that answer before you type, Piercr gives you her real interests from her Instagram, and you write the message.
Plug AI FAQ
Is Plug AI free?
No, not beyond a trial. It is free to download, but the App Store listing says it requires a subscription to use. A third-party walkthrough of the app shows a 3-day free trial that turns into a weekly subscription.
How much does Plug AI cost?
The US listing shows in-app purchases from $4.99 to $59.99, including a weekly unlimited plan at $4.99 and an annual unlimited plan at $59.99. The exact offer you see can vary, so check the paywall before you confirm.
Is Plug AI on Android?
The app we reviewed is listed on the Apple App Store for iPhone, Mac with Apple silicon and Apple Vision. We could not confirm a current Google Play version from the developer, so treat any Android app with the same name as a different product until you have checked who makes it.
Does Plug AI actually work?
For getting a reply out when you are stuck, yes, and its 4.6 rating reflects that. For making her more interested, it can only work with what is in the screenshot, so the replies are as specific as your chat already is. If your openers are the problem, start with how to DM a girl on Instagram first.
Is Plug AI the same as Rizz or RizzGPT?
It is not Rizz, which is a separate app. RizzGPT is murkier: the name has been attached to more than one app, and Plug AI's own listing sells an in-app item called RizzGPT. All of them do the same basic job of generating lines and replies. We compared the category as a whole in our ranking of the best AI dating assistants, and covered Rizz on its own in our Rizz AI review. RizzGPT gets its own review, because which RizzGPT you have matters.
Can she tell if I used Plug AI?
Not from the grammar. She can tell when a message is smooth and contains nothing specific to her, and six in ten dating app users already assume they have met at least one AI-written conversation. The fix is one real detail only you would know to mention.
